Creating Evaluation Scales

Modified on Mon, 28 Jul at 3:07 PM

In e-Schooling, evaluation scales are used to record and interpret students’ performance and behavior, both in class mode and in the evaluation grid. This article explains how to create, configure, and apply different types of scales in the system.

1. Accessing the scales menu

From the main menu, go to:

Settings > Pedagogical > Evaluation Scales

2. Creating a new scale

To create a new scale:

Click the “+” button

Give the scale a name

When creating a new scale, you must choose the type, which can be Quantitative, Qualitative, Binary (Yes/No), or Slider (depending on the evaluation purpose). Then, define the display mode and, if necessary, add a description to contextualize the use of the scale.

3. Defining the scale values

After saving the scale, configure its values:

Manual creation (one by one) or automatic (e.g., from 0 to 5 with an interval of 1).

Once the scale is created, you can assign an acronym and a description to each value, making them easier to identify. You can also define the minimum value considered as a passing grade, which is relevant in formal evaluation contexts.

4. Available scale types

The available scale types are:

  • Quantitative (default): e.g., 0 to 5, 1 to 15, 0 to 15
  • Qualitative: e.g., Insufficient, Satisfactory, Excellent
  • Binary (Yes/No): for simple records
  • Slider: for continuous values (e.g., minutes of rest, pages read)

5. Application in class mode (indicator mode)

Scales are used to record observations such as:

  • Missing materials, delays, unsubmitted work (Yes/No)
  • Duration of activities (Slider)
  • Behavior or eating habits (Emojis)
  • Learning levels (Qualitative)

6. Application in the evaluation grid

In the evaluation grid, each parameter can have an associated scale:

        e.g., a 0 to 10 scale for a test, a qualitative scale for competencies.

The scale defines how the teacher will assess each criterion.

Scales are an essential tool to ensure consistency and clarity in pedagogical records. Proper configuration allows for more effective evaluation, tailored to the school’s profile.
