This section allows you to configure the degrees of kinship used in the system to define the relationship between students and their guardians or legal representatives. These details are essential to ensure that student contact information is accurate and reflects each family’s reality.
1. Accessing the Degrees of Kinship Table
To configure kinship types, follow this path:
Settings » System » Support Table » Degrees of Kinship
2. Creating Kinship Types
Click the “+” (Add) button located at the top right. A new window will open where you must fill in the following fields:
- Base Kinship Type: The general name of the relationship, such as “Parents,” “Siblings,” or “Grandparent”
- Gender: Select the gender associated with the designation — Male, Female, or Undefined. This allows you to distinguish between, for example, “Father” and “Mother” as variations of the same base type
- Specific Designations: Enter the names that correspond to the selected gender
3. Practical Example
To add the kinship type “Grandparents,” fill in the fields as follows:
Base Kinship Type: Grandparent
Then, for each gender:
Male Gender
Designation: Grandfather
Inverse Designation (from the student’s perspective): Grandson or Granddaughter
Female Gender
Designation: Grandmother
Inverse Designation (from the student’s perspective): Grandson or Granddaughter
The inverse designation is how the system identifies the student from the guardian’s point of view. For example, if the contact is registered as “Grandfather,” the student will appear as “Grandson” or “Granddaughter” in that contact’s profile.
